Trip Summary

Experience a full day of paddling on the Pea River with Pea River Outdoors, covering approximately 9.4 miles of winding river. The Pea River, which eventually flows into the Choctawhatchee River, offers a classic Lower Alabama river adventure. Paddle through sections lined with majestic old-growth hardwood trees and deep sandstone banks. Along the way, enjoy the lush vegetation, diverse wildlife, and peaceful surroundings, making it a perfect adventure for families and nature enthusiasts. End your trip at the Pea River Outdoors shop, where you can cool down with snacks and drinks.

Extend your trip with a trip to Coffee County Lake and by exploring downtown Elba.

Trail Highlights

Day 1

  • Stop 1: Put-in at Weeks Bridge by shuttling from Pea River Outdoors
  • Stop 2: Paddle 9.4 miles downstream at your own pace
  • Stop 3: Take out at Elba Boat Landing, conveniently located at Pea River Outdoors.
    • After your paddle, enjoy snacks and drinks at the Pea River Outdoors shop and cool down from your adventure.

The entire trip is estimated to last 4 – 6 hours depending on the water level and your experience.

Side Ventures & Optional Activities to Add to Your Trip

Coffee County Lake:

  • Features: 80-acre lake with three fishing piers, known for birding (eagles nesting), and fishing. Fish attractors in place, boat rentals available, and amenities include restrooms, concessions, fishing tackle, and bait.
  • Location: 3086 County Road 364, eight miles northwest of Elba.
  • Open: Wednesday, Thursday, and Sunday from sunrise to sunset; Friday and Saturday from sunrise to 10:00 p.m.

  • Angler Highlights from Outdoor Alabama:
    • Fishing: Target species include spotted bass, longear sunfish, redbreast sunfish, largemouth bass, bluegill, channel catfish, and occasionally hybrid striped bass and striped bass.
      • Fishing Tips: Use small rooster tails, crankbaits, jigs, spinnerbaits, and live baits like crickets and worms, focusing on submerged structures and varying currents for best results.
